Dover, England

July 1st through the 9th

We disembarked the ship with no problem.  Took a taxi to our hotel and, as we expected, had to wait about 4 hours until our room was ready.  When we finally got our key, we went up to the room , which overlooked the port, and could barely fit in ourselves, forget about our luggage.  So we looked at another room without the view.  We didn’t need to see more ocean.  But as we entered this room we felt like we were back at sea.  It seems, we found out much later, the building was apartments before being converted to a hotel.  In the process of the conversion, they removed some supporting walls.  So the floors and walls are all waving.  Yes, you could roll a ball across the floor by just putting it down.  The building is over 100 years old.  So, finally we got a room on a lower floor with a flatter floor.

We had lunch at our hotel and got pirated by a seagull.  They are very brass…

So we stayed for 2 nights and moved to a bed and breakfast for the next six nights.  So we lugged our luggage up 3 flights of stairs to our new room.  Luckily I booked up a family room.  It has 2 beds, a twin and a full.  That way there is enough room for our bags.  It is an old building, also, but the floors are flat.  It is just a room.  No hotel attached.  So we are either in our room or out of the building.  We are right across from the train station, which we thought we would use, but used the buses instead.

Saturday walked around and looked without cameras. What a thought.

On Sunday, after settling in, we walked into town, about 10 minutes, and watched the annual summer celebration parade.  Floats come from all around with their queens and princesses.  Some bands also.
