Skjolden, Norway

June 28

We were able to sleep in today.  Having daily port stops gets tiring.  So after a late breakfast we headed out to meet our tour.  We went to see Jotunheimen National Park Covering 1,351 square miles, the park is home to a spectacular landscape of waterfalls, rivers, glaciers, and some of the highest peaks in Europe north of the Alps.

As we exited the ship, there was a little info area.  There they had info on llama walks.  That sounded good, but we did not know about it until it was too late.  That is the problem with this ship and maybe others.  The shore excursion office and the port info person and the actual activities off the ship, do not interface well.  And yes, I told them.  As a matter of fact, if you remember the adventure in Longyearbyen, where we didn’t get to walk on a glacier, we just got half our money back.  I am hoping for a full refund, eventually.  I didn’t get the glacier walk, but I got a good story.

So, the national park trip.  We rode in a full sized bus on a one way sized switchback road that had 2 way traffic.  Of course the switchbacks were necessitated by the steep climb which meant there were sheer dropoffs.  Scarey.  Glad the driver does this twice a day and has done it for 40 years.  Yesterday a trip was held up over an hour due to an accident on a road like this.

We were safe and had a good time and it was beautiful.

  1. Are you sure some of these pix aren't postcards? Or designed in a studio? Too pretty. BTW, what's a "waterfall"? Water that they let just run down a mountain without catching it at the bottom or bathing in it? It's now our 5th year of drought and they have gone beyond telling us to put a rock in our toilets and now recommend that we pee while showering. Love ya, Deb
