Isafjordur, Iceland

June 9th

We got up early, like 7:30 and watched the scenery as we came into the fjord to dock.  This fjord is different than the ones we saw in New Zealand.  These, so far, don’t have mountains that go directly into the sea, the sort of level out first.

We have arrived near enough to the solstice and north enough that it no longer gets dark at night.  Here is a picture of last night at 1 am.

Isafjordur is a small town.  We walked around it and saw some buildings and had coffee in a shop that had free wifi.  I spent 2 hours waiting for windows to download updates that I didn’t want, and by the time it was finished, I was out of battery.  I can’t charge the computer when we are not on the ship because I didn’t bring a converter and they use 220 here and in the rest of Europe.  So back to the ship we went.

On our way we saw these buildings

small nethouse   I don’t know if the netting is to keep the roof on during storms of to dry the net out.

small town  This building is in the town square.  By the way, why are most town squares round?
