June 10th

Happy Birthday, Debbie.  Funny story….when filling out the forms for the cruise they ask if there are any special events happening during the cruise.  So I filled in Duane’s birthday, which is on June 14th.  But I mistakenly put down today, June 10th, I guess Debbie was on my mind.  So today there were baloons outside our cabin and a card on the bed.  The funny part is when we went to the show the performer, a beautiful, sparkly dressed violin comedienne.  She asked who had a birthday today, and I said Duane did.  So she used him in her act.  He had a fun time and now everyone who was at the show knows his name.  He sure enjoyed himself.

Today we had to awake at 5:30am to make our 7:10 meeting time for our tour.  Outside we can see nothing but fog.  Don’t know what the day will hold.

We drove by bus to see an active geothermal area,  We had to go over a big pass, and on the other side of the pass was clear weather.

  That’s what it looked like at the beginning of the day.

As a matter of fact, we didn’t even need a jacket for the rest of the day.  There are some lovely farms with lots of sheep and Icelandic horses (NOT ponies, they get very upset if they are called ponies…)

 

There are hot spots all over

                                                                                 

and trolls made of lava piles left either by the trolls turning to stone or by a lake of lava having bubbling gasses forming piles of lava inside the lake and when the lake receeded, the piles of rock were left.

             

Then we had lunch of tomato soup (which I used to hate, but this was great).  Also we had local trout, which was the best I ever tasted.  He said they cook it at 240 degrees to get it so tender.

Then we went to some beatiful water falls called Godfloss.

                         

Then we drove around the town, both old and new. 

 

And back to the ship and some rest. 

I made it through the first full day tour.  Tomorrow we are at sea on our way to Scotland.  I intend to stay and rest all day (except to eat, of course).
