Reykjavik, Iceland

June 8

LAND…….LAND……LAND !!!!!

The captain said we would have a rainy cold day when we finally hit land, but he was wrong.  I hope he  is a better at navigating than at forcasting the weather.  It is cloudy, but even though the temperature may have only been in the 50’s, it was very comfortable.  We wish we had known that before we left the ship.  We wore 2 layers of clothes and heavy jackets and carried hats and gloves and a scarf, just in case.  We were peeling off clothes all day.

We took a hop on/ hop off bus for the day.  We rode around the loop, which took one hour, then we got off at the Hallgrims Kirkja (church).

Notice the pipes of the organ jut out.  I never saw that before.  While we were taking pictures someone was tuning the organ, I think.  It sounded great.

We walked downhill to the city center.  We walked down a pedestrian mall with shops….what a surprise.

Elves are a big thing around here.  On the mall were many photos of people surfing here in Iceland.  Who knew ????
